What you need : a Laptop Computer capable of video editing
what we recommend: either a 13 or 15-inch MacBook Pro with the memory (RAM) maxed out

Note 1:  Our recommendation is the mininum you should consider.  You can go up from here if it's within your budget, increasing either or both the CPU and Hard drive to suite your needs. 
Note 2: if you desire a Windows based computer, make sure it is of comprable Specs a $200 computer will not get you through the cirricula.  Also keep in mind that you may not get instruction on specific applicatons, and will be required to teach yourself any non cross platform Programs.

Final Cut X  -- Video editing Software for Mac
Adobe Creative Cloud  -- A subscription based Adobe CS portal.  You get access to  all of the Adobe software for a monthly fee.
Microsoft Office/Google Docs/Libre Office -- Your choice

What you need : a Class 10 SD card (class 6 is the absolute mininum!)
What we recommend:  Transcend Class 10 SDHC Memory Card

     Question: how do i know it's wether it's a class 10?
     Answer: look for the number inside the letter C that looks like a circle on the card.  
     If you do not see this symbol then it's only a class 2 card an not approperiate for video.
